Can't pan when Ctrl is held to pause the animation. Instead it zooms in/out.

That's true, but I'm not sure what we should do differently. We use ctrl+RMB as an alternate way to zoom. Maybe use a different way to pause the animation?

Yes I guess old way, key D, will work just fine
Just saw Erikas tip on the forum wanted to try it, but seemed not practical without panning.
